Valdora looked over as the science station beeped and noted the approach.
"Yes we lost a lot of good men these past two days. We will have no choice but to turn around and head for home. It is a long way but this ship is no longer able to carry out its mission in its current state. We will keep the beacon encase we run into more trouble. Thank you."
Valdora watched as suddenly the barriers were gone and looked out seeing the Covenant ships also missing, fled. Valdora sat back with a sigh and turned to the crew.
"I want a full damage and casualty report on my desk...if it is still standing."
With that he walked down to his ready room and everything seemed very quiet.
Captains Log Supplemental
I am back on board but part of me wishes this was all a bad dream. Over half of the ship has been destroyed. Our slipstream drive will never work again and we are limping home at impulse. Even if Cambell can get the warp core on line it will take us years to get back out of Covenant Space and longer still to reach the Federation. But I have no choice but to turn back and cancel our mission in our present state. I only hope that we can meet allies along the way, perhaps those of our Doctor Nomonor's people when they have more time and resources, that will help us restore our ships systems.
Foley reports our casualty reports are as high as nearly four hundred. Four hundred dead including our brave Marine Commander and our helm officer in critical condition. With that said I am now glad we have taken on board so many travelers on our early voyages. They will just enough replacements to run what is left of this ship.
Valdora sat in his Ready room, the dull glow of emergency lights illuminating the room and debris and fallen objects, bulkheads around him. The ship was a mess and he knew even now the Engineers were working over time to restore basic functions. Unfortunately for Valdora replicators were not on the list and he would not be able to survive on rations. He would keep this from his crew though. No need to worry them further or give them reason to stop work on the systems that would help the many and not the one. Valdora almost found himself ready to reprimand Logan for coming after him, if he hadn't many would still be alive and many systems including warp would be on line and closer to repair. Lucan wonderd if he alone was worth that.
He had called for both Commander Larkon and First Lieutenant Gordon to report to his ready room and was expecting the marine first. With many dead he and Logan would have a hard time filling positions but it was duty that they must perform for the continued running of the ship. He looked up as the chime sounded.
"Come."
