Personal Log Stardate XXXXX.X
Today has to be the weirdest and most confusing day of my life. Graduating Starfleet Academy I was initially assigned to the Jupiter Station to continue my research in both Artificial Intelligence and Hologram related science. It was a personal request and an recommendation from one of my Professors at the Academy. He knew of my interests and saw the station to be a great place to flourish them.
I boarded the Starship Eternal which was a transport vessel of the federation. It delivers personal and supplies to the station every so often. It was meant to be a normal flight within the Solar System as we flew passed Mars and Jupiter but just as we passed the Juipter Station another Starfleet vessel ordered the transport to stop. Apparently they had orders to escort me to Starbase 135.
The whole fiasco was confusing, I thought I was in trouble or something but it was really a change of orders. I was to be transferred to the Starship Enterprise where I would serve as the Assistant Chief Science Officer. Least it to say I was furious about the order switch, they didn't even give me a reason for the transfer but like always I didn't say or do anything to contradict the orders.
I arrived on Starbase 135 just in time to catch the vessel before it departed for it's deep space mission. I was quickly briefed on the Senior Staff and the Commanding officers while the final checks were made in verifying the transfer orders were real. The briefing was extremely lacking as I did not even get a ship specifications nor the other standard topic of importance for new officers.
I was informed though of the recent Borg encounter this ship faced while on it's maiden voyage. The Borg...
*long pause*
Huh? Oh sorry Enterprise. Now where was I?
Oh yeah, thanks.
Well after learning of it's first encounter I was allowed to board. I went straight to my quarters and learned of the Department Meeting to introduce the new members of the Science crew. I was gonna prepare for the meeting but decided that I needed to check the Holodeck. I just wanted to make sure the holodeck was at least up to date. While I was there I decided to listen to "Photons Be Free", just the introduction as time was pretty short.
With my mind a little clearer and my inner child satisfied I headed for the meeting.
Oh the meeting was a fiasco in my opinion. The Lieutenant asked me to give a speech to the crew. I barely knew what to say so I planned on using the speech I originally intended for when I arrived at Jupiter Station but, I was nervous and winged it. I went to far I think and gave a moral speech instead. Yikes what a nightmare.
Anyways luckly it was quickly over as Lt. Mandelo begin to brief us on our first assignment. What happened next surprised me.
*Enterprise begins to speak but her lines are not recorded.*
Yes, it surprised me. I wasn't expecting nor informed of your existence till I got on board.
*She asks a question*
I am sorry if I offended you but seriously I researched A.I while learning cybernetics and never heard of any in production. May I please continue with the log?
*She responds*
Figs? I really need to ask you about that. Why do you know about it?
*Her voice is again not recorded but it can be inferred she changed the subject.*
Right, anyways after your appearance I began work as ordered on a report of the slipstream system. I finished the report in the allotted time but was quickly given another assignment and another and another. Just the first day and I knew more about the ship than I wanted to know. Not only that I was also given responsibility of the lab while the Lieutenant was out doing what ever her job required.
Every crewmen in the lab began to seek me out, ask me questions or help. Now that I think of it I think the speech really did help them out more then I thought. Even if the speech was not intended or appropriate it seemed to brought more work for me then I cared to ever have in my life. Man I can already see sleepless nights ahead.
Yes? No I am not busy. Sigh, I don't mind I will be right there to assist.
End Personal Log.
