Jade walked into the room which was already alive with chatter. The tables and equipement had been moved to one side and had been replaced with chairs for the crewman. She placed the PADD she had into her hand as she walked around to the front of the group. She noticed the new young face of her new assitant at the front. "Good morning people" she spoke up and looked at her PADD "ok fist thing is first I would like to introduce everyone to our new assitant chief Ensign Andrew Figueroa." She stepped aside so the Ensign could stand and speak to the crewman and unenlisted officers.

"Thank you Lt. Mandelo." Getting up from his safety zone of a chair he slowly but surely made his way up to the front near where The Lt. was standing. He prepared a speech just in case but the words were slipping out of his mind.
It did not help that the whole department now looked upon him waiting for his speech. No matter the situation he all ways kept his cool, making the right moves and saying the right thing at the right time. Either navigating a star-cruiser out of a deadly asteroid field or fighting a very hungry beast with just his wits and a club. Unfortunately for him all those situations were simulated in the safety of a holodeck. Real life had no reset buttons.
"Hello everyone my name is Andrew Figueroa." (Good with the introduction out of the way everything should flow easily.) A bead of sweat began to form in the back of his neck. Its icy feel began to flow down his back. Taking a deep breath through his nostrils he continued.
"As many of you know first hand this ship and it's crew encountered the borg. A race of cybernetic lifeforms whose sole purpose is to assimilation of all technology and societies."
"Unfortunately for myself and other of our fellow crew member's we were not here to assist on the Enterprises' maiden voyage. We lost a few good mates on that trek but to those who made it back keep that experience deep in thought. We are now on a quest to the unknown where the most dangerous threat lies." A pause.
"This threat is the unknown itself. We do not know what lies ahead but as scientist it is up to us to explain the mysteries of the universe. Knowledge is power, and with it we can prevent more lives from being lost."
Silence. The Ensign is more of a wreck than before. (Damn, I think I said to much. Man why did I have to drag myself in another Doc monologue).
"Anyways, I hope we can all work together in a peaceful and productive manner as we serve aboard the Enterprise." With that he ended his speech.

OOC: Hope you don't mind if I use the new computer here Karl. Feel free to make changes if shes not how you imagined.
IC: Mandelo stood back in surprise, amazed at how long and well prepared this introduction was. "Thank you Ensign. Now on to our first assignment. The Captain has asked me to prepare a full report on the readings we get from the slipstream portal. As it is a new technology and we still need to work out the kinks if we are to use it long term. Speaking of which, I want to show you the new computer we had installed at the Starbase. Those of you, like you Ensign, who have a background in cybernetics will appreciate this new upgrade. Enterprise!" With her order three beams came from the left of her and collided on a near bye holopad. Together the beams formed a see though, blue, holographic women. "Enterprise. Please report the status of the slipstream drive" she commanded. "Slipstream velocity is at 3.4. The portal is holding at 98.7% and minor fluctuations are being countered by the modifications to the main deflector. The core is operating at 97 percent capacity" replied the hologram, her words seemed to ego off the walls.

As the blue figure materialized in a oh so familiar pattern, a hologram of a stunning woman appeared. This was no mere hologram as presented by the lieutenant it was the A.I of the very ship itself.
Thought to be impossible by many in the fields of hologram and cybernetic science to be impossible but with the EMH known as Doc from Voyager from years passed A.I science has advance so far. Though indeed dangerous in it's own right ship efficiency can be improved dramatically if the ship itself can adapt in tight combat conditions or even if the chain of command has been interrupted.
Indeed being stationed on this ship was truly a blessing for thew Ensign.
But in order to confirm his thoughts he asked the most obvious of questions.
"Lt. Mandelo am I correct to assume that this hologram is indeed the main computer of the ship, Enterprise and not just a subroutine?"

"That's right. Or....they tell me it is. I am more based in chemistry, biology and physics rather than cybernetics. It was sold to be the replacement of the old interactive computer but I get the feeling that those eyes arn't as blank as the manuel would have us believe" she replied frankly.

Indeed the eyes did give much in the sense of a soul, but that can be cleverly simulated. There was something that bothered him the most with what the Lt. said was this new upgrade was purhased.
He would have doved deeper into the topic but the very same eyes he questioned reminded him of his stance on A.I whether simulated or real.
"Pleasure to have you aboard Enterprise."
The blue hologram responded with a kind smile. "Thank you, Ensign Andrew Figs Figueroa."
Figs?! The Ensign's face began to red, he had hope that nickname would be long forgotten since his days at the academy.

Startled by his old nick name, he came to in time to regain his composure.
"Yes, I am fine. Just didn't expect Enterprise to call me by that name." In deed how could she? Was my personal file altered to add "Figs". It was a sort of pet name given by a few awkward and close friends at the academy. Though the name was never official it was quite curious.
To avoid another embarrassment he added, "Anyways I should begin the analysis of the slip-stream drive, it should be done within the hour ma'am.
With that he and fellow members of the department began to work on the task at hand.
Though the A.I simply known as Enterprise was still present waiting for her next orders, the idea of understanding and learning more about her was like a plague of curiosity waiting to be cured.

"Understood" she nodded "dismissed everyone."
As everyone despersed she turned and kept her eyes on her new right hand man. He seemed...startled.
