"Yes Doctor. I have been looking over reports and logs from your staff and those you have dealt with and frankly while they do all credit you as a fine Doctor and officer they also describe you as being very hard to work with. Now there are a few exceptions on our maiden voyage but I have three requests from your staff for transfers" he replied sternly "and idea why that is?"

Dr Foley didn't even flinch when the Captain mentioned the transfers.
" I set my medical teams to a high standard becuase I know they are capable of it. I am a Doctor, Captain , not a nursery school teacher. My job is to treat injuries and illness and save lives and not to molly coddle my staff or patients."
He took a deep breath and finished what he had to say,
" The first mission of this ship was to engage a Borg fleet. We are now exploring unchartered areas of the galaxy , where there will be countless deadly threats to every crew member on board. I would rather have a hardened medical team ready to deal with any threat or crisis that comes our way , than have a team thats gone soft and make mistakes in a crisis when we cant afford to make any. If they cant hack the pace I set , let them transfer."

"I see" Valdora nodded "You mean you would like to weed out the softer members of your staff? Well let me tell you something Doctor. I do respect that view and you opinions. The lives and safety of this crew are primarily in two pairs of hands. Yours and mine. My job is make sure they don't get hurt and your job is to save them if they do. I have over a thousand men and women on this ship and I am realist. We are going on a deep space mission and in 30 days we will not be able to call into a starbase for resupplies or new crew members. This is it. This is all we get. We need every man and women on board and we certainly need every medical officer. Now you get down there and you make do with what you have. You make every single one of your crewmen the best dam medical officers you can and if they can't deal with it tell them that their transfers are denied. You don't have the luxury of weeding Doctor so get down there and do your job!"

The fatigued Ensign returned to his quarters. The doors opened allowing him to enter into the dark room. With the entrance now sealed the ambient glow outside his view-screen window was the only light.
His worries were getting to him. Regardless of the improvised speech he gave of hope was helpful to the crew or not it was his low self esteem that kept him down. Even days later he still reflected upon it.
His original Speech consisted of a standard introduction and a small speech of how some of the new systems were to function but instead like always he got into a fictional role of a hero or Captain giving a moral boost to his men. It did not help that he was in a monologue mood due to just finishing the introduction of "Photons Be Free" just before the meeting.
With a sigh, he asked "One fig please." The replicator in the voice of Enterprise responded.
"Sliced or whole?"
"Fresh of the tree please." With that the replicator replicated a small tear shaped fruit, it's skin light as if just picked.
"Thanks." Grabbing the small fruit he landed hard on top his bed. With a bite the mild sweet taste gushed upon his tongue as memories of home on the old farm returned. Time of no worries and regrets, it is there that he truly felt safe.
With his mind safely at ease the image of the blue hologram appeared before his thoughts. It was the one thing that stayed on his mind. He was not told about this addition to the vessel till it was shown to him at the Department Meeting that morning three days ago. Unfortunately due to the tight schedule of the lab he was unable to get his curiosity fulfilled.
'Is she truly sentient or is she just code?' This one question plagued him.

Jack Stepped into his office after his little visit to Ensign Langley's quarters. "Enterprise" He said As the computer came to life and appeared infront of him.
"Yes Lieutenant what can i do for you?" She asked as she looked at him.
"Could you be so kind as to upload all of todays security reports to a PADD for me please?" He asked smiling.
Enterprise closes her eyes then reopens them. "It is done sir is there anything else" She asked
"No thank you computer your free to go" Jack said as the program went offline and he sat down in his chair and began reading.

Greg had been working on keeping the ship at 100%, this was helped with the arrival of some officers to the department, which meant he could leave Main Engineering and not worry about the ship blowing up from the inside out. He made his way to the turbolift, headed for the science labs to see if the download data from the Borg Cube had transferred ok, and if it made any sense to Lt Mandelo and her team. He reached the main lab, and walked through the doors, to the new assistant chief, who'd been sent from the Starbase.......
"Greetings Ensign"

Foley regarded the Captain coldly.
" I am doing my job Captain. I have no intention of labelling any of my medical staff as weak. I am NOT forcing these men or women whoever they are to request transfers I may snap and have a harsh demeanor but I am no bully. I set a lot of work but I don't ask anything from them that I have not done myself a hundred times before or wouldn't do again."
Calvin then stood up.
"Permission to leave ,Sir?" he said sounding tired and irritated and having to defend his way of running things.

Dr Foley lumbered out of the Captains readyroom in a foul mood. " Sickbay" he said and the turbolift whirred to life.
As he entered sickbay , a young female Dr approached him nervously.
"Dr Foley?" she asked timidly. "Yes?" Calvin asked turning around and looking down at the young lady who had spoken. " Did Captain Valdora, umm did he mention anything to you?" she said quietly, barely daring to ask him. "Requests denied" came the short and sharp reply as the Doctor walked away to tend to a patient.

Valdora pressed his desk top com. "Patch it through to here Ensign" he responded. On the desktop screen before Lucan Admiral Dutton appeared. "Captain. I am going to need you to drop to standard warp" Dutton said at once. "Can I ask why?" Valdora responded. "We need you to make a short detour to Romulus 2."
Captains Log Supplemental I have assembled the senior staff and ordered us to drop to standard warp as we approach the old neutral zone. Due to the reports I have been given, I fear what is ahead.
"Starfleet lost contact with the Romulans over six years ago and they have not been seen or heard from since. Any ship which ever went close enough to the old neutral zone was reportedly attacked. That was until seventeen hours ago when Starfleet received an emergency distress call from the Romulan praetor himself. He did not say why but did request that a federation ship be sent to pick up him and his senior staff as soon as possible. That is our mission" Valdora said to his assembled senior staff as the head of the observation lounge table.

Leaning forward Shepard says "Sir, i doubt the romulans would make this call if it was anything less of a high level situation, possibly another civil war, their empire has been torn apart by them since the destruction of Romulus. I would suggest going in combat ready, with my marines prepped for a combat drop to extract the praetor and his officials. I would also suggest a standard combat warp in, directly over the planet and deploy a full fighter screen and shuttles with marines for a rapid insertion, heavy weapons and Ion Thumper bombs locked onto the underside of the shuttles and fighters to take out any AA weapons that might be deployed. If we move quick enough we could extract the Praetor even if his world is under siege or in enemy hands. And if everything is fine we will have a full screen around the ship to make sure it stays that way."

Dr Foley barley hid a scowl as the Marine immediately started talking about combat and war. He was on the verge of saying something but thought better of it and kept it to himself. 'Why should I bother expressing what I think anymore , it will only get me shouted at by the Captain' he thought and carried on listening to what other people had to say.

Foley stared at the Captain.
"Nothing Sir , just a little stomach ache is all." He then sat back in his chair and lowered his gaze to the table.
