Kerak made his way into the mess, walked up to the replicator and ordered a Romulan ale. With that he sat at a table alone and tried not to disturb the group of human marines on the other side of the room.

One of them broke off from the rest of the group, and walked over to his table, having gotten a small drink of his own. "2nd Lieutenant, its good to hear that the Captain accepted your team to work alongside us in the journey ahead...and I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your people." he said, sitting down across from the man.

He looked up startled and replied "ummm thank you sir but what is done is done. I am just glad that we helped repel the Reman scum so that we had a place to go. A long deep space mission seems exactly where I want to be, far from the troubles of home."

"Home. Such a relative term in this day and age. I have a family back home, but all of them have their own pursuits. When you're in our field, its about the people next to you. It'll be an honor to work with you and your team on our mission." he said, taking a sip of his drink.

Kerak nodded as he took abite of his meal. "Thank you sir. And I understand. But you are lucky to have a home to go back to when this is all over."

"Perhaps, but even so, if you don't have a home to go back to you can stay at my place." He said, using figurative speech to mean he could come to Earth or somewhere similar.
