- Character History ::
Born on Earth to a lower-class family, Randall, or "Randy" as he was nicknamed among friends, had to learn very early to live off the land. His father would often take him out into the woods and show him things to do and tell him things to remember if he ever got into the situation. Also from a young age he was taught how to use a rifle. Not an energy rifle, but an old style M14 that fired bullets. In light of the fact that his father spent time with him on the weekends, during the week, his mother Maya home-schooled him up until the high school years, training him well in the way he should go. Once high school rolled around, his parents decided to send him to the local school, having taught him a lot beforehand. He graduated four years later at the age of 18, an honors student.
One day a Starfleet recruiter came to his house and talked with his parents for a bit, then asked to speak to the son. Randy came out in his usual clothing, and the recruiter invited him to apply for Starfleet Academy. Randy accepted, and after taking the qualification exams, he passed. Once in the Academy, he majored in Hand to Hand Combat, Marksmanship, Infiltration and Escape and Evasion, while minoring in Medical, attaining enough training to be considered a rookie MACO Corpsman, Tactics, and Light Explosives Handling. As a part of his marksmanship training, he requested, and received clearance for, training in both modern weaponry and old school weaponry, showing a fondness for the old M21 Sniper Weapon System, a rifle that chambered high powered ammunition and that could be sound suppressed, the old M4 Special Operations Peculiar Modification (or SOPMOD) Carbine, and the M1911A1 side-arm, among other old weapons. After completing the course, he received a signed letter from the course's instructor signifying that he was trained in the use of both modern and older weaponry and is allowed to use both. This would come in handy later on for him.
Randy also learned about concealing himself within his environment, and with help from his instructor managed to develop a configurable suit that could be used anywhere, who's color could be changed at any time to reflect his environment and mask his lifesign from enemy sensors. Light Explosives used by him included modified Claymores that were programmed with a FOF (Friend or Foe) signal that could be programmed by the operator before use, packs of modified C4 that were powerful enough to take down most types of targets, and modified grenades, such as smoke, flash, stun, fragmentation, incendiary, and upgraded thermite grenades. He graduated the Academy at the age of 23, and was assigned to the exploration ship the USS Almand as a member of its MACO detachment. Nothing really eventful happened here, as he remained on board for two years before being transferred to the USS Eradus' MACO detachment, another patrol ship that went along the Cardassian border.
It was here that he met a fellow sniper, and for the next year or so they worked together and formed a team bond, not knowing just in who's footsteps they followed. Finally they got their first taste of action on a planet near the old border between Cardassia and the Federation. the Cardassian resistance who had formed two years ago had managed to bring down a Starfleet shuttle containing precious cargo in the middle of a large city. The ship was in high orbit, but there was transporter interference, along with a storm that prevented shuttles from going to the planet. The two of them volunteered to take transport enhancers and beam out who they could, and then hold the crash site until the interference cleared up. After a minute of thought their Captain had nodded and sent them down in combat gear with energy shields. By that time the Cardassian resistance fighters had already begun to assault the crash site with small arms fire, and the two heard return fire as well before making their entrance by shooting a pair of Cardassians who had flanked the site before examining the shuttle pilot, whose leg was badly hurt. They pulled him out and put him near the others, handing him one of their old style MP5s after transporting three of the six survivors out with their remaining transport enhancers. "You're locked and loaded, any of those bastards come around these corners, you watch our backs." He nods but stops them as they're about to go up in front of the shuttle, "Where's the rescue party?" "We're it." Randall had said before getting in the side of the shuttle while his partner had taken cover in the cockpit, enough cover still being present.
Half an hour later, the situation was pretty grim. Their energy shields had failed and they were running low on ammunition. However the precious cargo was intact and they hadn't sustained any severe injuries, just a few energy blasts that had hurt, washing across their body armor. "Last Mag!" Randall had called out as he reloaded his M21, while his partner had made the same declaration with her M4. After firing off a few shots from his M21, he heard a thud behind him, and he turned around to see Rosa leaning back against the side of the shuttle, having taken an energy blast to her chest, the body armor having dissipated about half the impact. "Rosa!" he shouted, before stepping in front of her and shooting the bastard that had shot her, then he put one arm around his neck, "You ok? can you walk?" "I'm fine, lets get to the others." she said, and he slung his M21 over his shoulder before picking up her M4 and helping her out of the shuttle, firing off shots as he guided her to where the others are then put her down and gave her the M4 back before stepping forward a bit, "Grenade!" he shouted before pulling the pin on two grenades and throwing them forward, killing a few more. Then he fired off a few more shots from his M21 before his communicator crackled to life, =/\= Captain to Gordon, do you read?" =/\= "I read you sir its about damn time!" =/\= "Whats your situation?" =/\= "Under heavy fire, precious cargo intact, team member needs medical attention, can you get us out of here?" The captain nodded before Randall heard him speak to another officer on the bridge, "Tell the transporter room to beam them out of there now!" He expended the last shot from his magazine then picked up a pistol in one hand and an upgraded thermite grenade in the other he threw the grenade into the middle of the shuttle while shooting down range. As the grenade went off with a bright light, the transporter beam claimed them all, and a couple of torpedoes from the ship above slammed into the area in front to cover their escape. The two of them ended up being nominated for the Federation Medal of Honor, but its conferrance was delayed until the next time they came to Earth.
Six months later, he was transferred off of the ship to the new Enterprise, what he didn't know was..his partner had been transferred to the same ship as well.
